We were thrilled to have Santa Claus visit our classes before our Christmas holidays. The children were delighted to meet Santa before he visits every child on 25th December 2019!
The children drew from observation this week. They created self-portraits of themselves and looked in the mirror while they yawned as their inspiration! They were also inspired by the poem, “Accidentally”. Once – I didn’t mean to, but that was that – I yawned in the sunshine and swallowed a gnat. I’d rather eat mushrooms and bullfrog’s legs, I’d rather have pepper all over my eggs than open my mouth…
Congratulations to Ms. Cooney’s class who were selected as winners in the 3rd and 4th class category of the recent P.D.S.T. Primary S.T.E.M. Maths Week Competition! The children in Ms. Cooney’s class worked out the answer to a problem-solving question and posted their answer and the strategies they used on Padlet. Ms. Cooney’s class celebrated EU Code Week by using both our iPads and our brand new Chromebooks to complete coding activities on Hour of Code and Scratch Junior. Coding is fantastic to develop children’s problem-solving skills as well as enhancing their creativity.
Scratch is a free programming language and online community where you can create your own interactive stories, games and animations. Ms. Cooney’s class had a brilliant time using Scratch Junior on the iPads for the first time recently and they look forward to exploring this further in future Digital Technology lessons!
We are very lucky to have a wonderful coach from Olympian Gymnastics teaching classes in Holy Spirit Senior Primary School again this year. The children have been learning a range of gymnastic actions to travel on the floor and on apparatus, as well as practising and performing forward rolls, handstands and cartwheels.
Ms. Cooney’s class had a maths lesson with a difference this week. Firstly, they used Lego to develop their maths concepts, as well as complete a range of challenges. Then, they used our iPads to practise their operations (addition and subtraction). Ms. Cooney is very proud of the hard work her class did in their first full week in Holy Spirit Senior Primary School!
